Pallet logistics became too expensive
Due to increasing requirements, the shipping of traditional wooden euro pallets became too slow, expensive, and prone to errors. The pallets were prone to theft, loss, and damage. A lack of transparency made it impossible to respond quickly to incorrect deliveries or slow returns.
The process was not transparent enough to notify FEGA & SCHMITT of problems impacting the end consumer. Common issues included slow pallet returns for reuse, incorrect deliveries, and shortages of available pallets at the right time and place for reliable distribution.

Smart roll containers replace pallets
FEGA & SCHMITT replaced their error-prone pallet logistics system with new, reusable containers from WANZL. Every smart roll container is equipped with an Internet of Things (IoT) tracking device and is permanently connected to the wireless network. The long-lasting batteries enable maintenance-free, cost-efficient operation for many years.

The fleet is centrally managed via the BOX ID platform, which processes and analyzes all location data. The integration of tracking technologies – including QR codes, barcodes, and RFID tags – provides a comprehensive overview of the entire distribution network. Additionally, retail customers can use a web application to see the location of their individual shipments in real time.
