RESULTS
- Transparent overview of the location of the load carriers
- Inventory and categorisation of transport racks
- Significant time savings
- Tracking of load carriers, even at suppliers
- Avoidance of production delays
STARTING POINT
In the engineering industry, most orders have a batch size of one. In addition, each order consists of a large number of individual parts and components that must be available in the production area on time. Due to the size and weight of the components, a large number of load carriers are used in the INDEX Werke to facilitate the mobile provision of the individual assemblies.
In the past, reliable tracking of the more than 1,000 loading carriers across five production sites was almost impossible, leading to repeated delays in production. For this reason, the company was looking for an efficient system to manage a large number of transport racks and decided to implement the BOX ID Cloud Solution.
Flexible solution for load carrier visualisation
As large components could not always be made available on time for production at the INDEX plants due to a lack of suitable transport racks, the production management started looking for a transport rack management system. BOX ID‘s solution quickly impressed them with its clear cockpit, convenient user administration and ease of use. Another advantage was the possibility of completely individual typing and labelling. The INDEX Werke have currently defined 77 different types of load carriers, which in turn can be classified with twelve different status designations (e.g. empty, loaded, defective, en route, etc.).
To date, more than 500 containers have been fitted with active and passive trackers. The active trackers enable real-time tracking, while the passive QR codes are ideal for reporting status changes, such as a release notification or the completion of a repair. This gives the entire logistics team a transparent view of the availability and location of transport racks at the touch of a button.
BOX ID‘s support during the implementation phase was described as very positive and cooperative. The quick response to customization requests contributed to the high level of satisfaction during the project. Since the implementation, a large number of delays in the production process have been avoided and there has been a noticeable reduction in the number of „fire-fighting“ actions in the logistics area.
Reliable tracking speeds up response times
The implementation of the BOX ID solution has drastically changed the understanding of the importance of load carrier management at INDEX Werke and their suppliers. The new query capabilities of the cloud-based system, which is used as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution, provide a clear overview of all transport racks for the first time, resulting in significantly faster response times.
„We were able to integrate Process Mining into the test phase and quickly gained useful insights into how our load carriers really work.“
